A place to call "Home"

Chase Commons - A project

Chase commons is a renovated four-story Victorian school building with 28 units of various sizes on four floors.  (The basement is yet to be developed)  The building is handicap-accesssible.  It is located in the Northside neighborhood of Cincinnati Ohio.  We are on buslines and within walking distance of a library, drug store, coffee shops and banks.  It is within a mile of two interstate highways.  To learn more about Northside, check out the community's page on Cincinnatihome.org.

The units range in size from approximately 400 to 1300 sq. ft.  All have 14- 16 foot ceilings, and some have lofts.  Because of the development financing, the units were rental for the first three years.  As of this January the units started converting to condos.  Several are still for sale.

Residents of Chase Commons are diverse in race, gender, sexual orientation, economic level, ability, and age ( from 9 to 92 years old).  Residents meet for monthly potluck dinners and other social events.

Where she wanted to retire

After career moves in Ohio and Massachustts, Carolyn decided that Cincinnati, and Chase Commons, would be where she wanted to retire.  One of the early applicants, she recounts with a smile when recalling the many meetings that prospective members attended, and the fact that they became something of a community before they even occupied their quarters in the building.

Having attended a school by the same architect (Henry Siter), she loves the fortress-like, Richardson Romanesque building, and the amenities that it offers to residents.  (Laundry, monthly potluck suppers, exercise room, gardens; off -street parking, good neighbors, and convenience to library; pharmacy; coffee shops, restaurants, recreation facilities, farmers' market, and specialty shops a short walk away on Hamilton Avenue.)  She finds it convenient to many City activities, and appreciates the relatively economical aspect of life at Cahe Commons.
